Sailor Moon
Created by Takeuchi Naoko in 1992, Sailor Moon (originally "Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon" or "Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon")
was a "magical girls" anime - A tried-and-true formula, a team of girls blessed with magical powers of one
sort or another chosen to protect the planet from whatever evil threatens it. (in Sailor Moon's
case, teenage sailor-suited superheroines born and destined to protect the Earth from The Negaverse, an evil army of minions led through Queen Beryl) This series
also played a key role in waking the North American world to the art of Anime, developing a vast cult
following mere weeks after its debut on North American airwaves on August 28, 1995 on the YTV Network in Canada. The last TV episode aired in Japan on February 8, 1997,
and the last manga was the February 1997 Nakayoshi. Sailor Moon was greatly
missed. Since then the Sailor Moon TV series has been dubbed in over 11 languages and
aired to a captive audience in over 18 countries.
